Hermann Karl Hesse was born on 2 July 1877 in the Black Forest town of Calw in Württemberg, German Empire. His grandparents served in India at a mission under the auspices of the Basel Mission, a Protestant Christian missionary society. His grandfather Hermann Gundert compiled a Malayalam grammar and a Malayalam-English dictionary, and also contributed to a translation of the Bible into Malayalam in South India. Hesse's mother, Marie Gundert, was born at such a mission in South India in 1842. In describing her own childhood, she said, "A happy child I was not..." As was usual among missionaries at the time, she was left behind in Europe at the age of four when her parents returned to India.
The English form Hesse was in common use by the 18th century, first in the hyphenated names of the states of Hesse-Cassel and Hesse-Darmstadt, but the latinate form Hessia remained in common English usage well into the 19th century. In the 1950s, Hesse's popularity began to wane, while literature critics and intellectuals turned their attention to other subjects. In 1955, the sales of Hesse's books by his publisher Suhrkamp reached an all-time low. However, after Hesse's death in 1962, posthumously published writings, including letters and previously unknown pieces of prose, contributed to a new level of understanding and appreciation of his works. In 1931, Hesse left the Casa Camuzzi and moved with Ninon to a larger house, also near Montagnola, which was built for him to use for the rest of his life, by his friend and patron Hans C. Bodmer.

At first glance, it may seem like Wamelink had life figured out, especially when she accepted what she thought was her dream job post-graduation. In May 2018, Wamelink accepted a job with Learfield IMG College as an account executive working in corporate sponsorship sales. In this position, she worked specifically with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and gained experience in building client relationships. Olivia Wamelink '18 used her entrepreneurial skills developed at Elon to trade her corporate job for her own business, B. Well Babies, which creates sustainable baby products with a portion of the company's proceeds going toward Foster Village Charlotte. Elon Homes for Children cannot currently be evaluated by our Leadership & Adaptability methodology because we have not received data from the charity regarding its leadership capacity, strategic thinking and planning, and ability to innovate or respond to changes.
Since our founding in 2019, we have been determined to make an impact by bridging the gap between our local community and the foster families within it. His mother wrote poetry, and his father was known for his use of language in both his sermons and the writing of religious tracts. His first role model for becoming an artist was his half-brother, Theo, who rebelled against the family by entering a music conservatory in 1885. Hesse showed a precocious ability to rhyme, and by 1889–90 had decided that he wanted to be a writer. Wamelink joins a strong network of successful Elon alumni, a network that she does not believe is a coincidence. When asked why she believes Elon graduates see so much success professionally, she hinted at the wide variety of real-life experiences Elon students can partake in and the support system Elon provides them with.
Without this help, many youth at 18 become homeless and some get involved in criminal activity in an effort to survive. Almost without exception they are searching desperately for a better way. Community-Based Foster Care program provides refuge, within a licensed family setting, for children who need a safe place to live when their parents cannot adequately care for them. We serve children, ages 0-20, in roughly a dozen North Carolina counties from Mecklenburg to Durham, accepting referrals from any NC Dept of Social Services. Orphanages basically takes care of the children whose natural parents are deceased or otherwise unable or unwilling to care for them.
In northern Hesse, in Baunatal, Volkswagen AG has a large factory that manufactures spare parts, not far-away from it there is also a Daimler Truck plant, which produces an axes. HR provides a statewide TV channel as well as a range of regional radio stations . Besides the state run HR, privately run TV stations exist and are an important line of commerce. Among the commercial radio stations that are active in Hesse, Hit Radio FFH, Planet Radio, Harmony FM, Radio BOB and Antenne Frankfurt are the most popular. It was also elevated by Napoleon to the status of Grand Duchy, becoming the Grand Duchy of Hesse.
Most of the population of Hesse lives in the southern part, in the Rhine Main Area. The principal cities of the area include Frankfurt am Main, Wiesbaden, Darmstadt, Offenbach, Hanau, Giessen, Wetzlar, and Limburg. Other major towns in Hesse are Fulda in the east, and Kassel and Marburg an der Lahn in the north.
